A brief hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday morning made it official - Ron Artest has changed its name to World Peace Metta.

According to the spokeswoman for Artest, Courtney Barnes, Artest was not present for the decision, but his lawyer, Nahla Rajan, represented his client in front of Commissioner Matthew C. St. George.

, [Rajan] approached, the judge said,  We understand that he wants to change his name and he wants to do it for personal reasons , and was awarded , Barnes said.  was it. It was so fast.
Artest initial request to change its name last month was postponed due to a failure to pay a parking ticket in circulation.

Once we discover about the preliminary hearing, since they were able to track the ticket, which was immediately taken care , Barnes said.

Artest's daughter eight years old, Diamond also plans to change his surname from Artest for World Peace, now that his father's name change became official.

This process had to go through [Friday] and be cool before there is any exercise that  Barnes said.

Metta will be the first name and means, such as friendship, love and kindness , Artest told Stephen A. 710 ESPNLA Smith earlier this month.  World Peace will be the last name, so everyone can get ready to buy their shirts World Peace.

Artest said he plans to use No. 70 next season, but the NBA has rules that prevent players from changing his uniform number from year to year. The deadline for the player to change his number is in early March to have it take effect for next season and once a number is changed, it has to be used for five seasons with the team before a player is allowed change it (unless it was negotiated with a new team, or leave as a free agent).

Artest wore No. 37 after signing as a free agent with the Lakers in 2009-10 and did switch to No. 15 last season. It is not clear what he had to do to achieve this.

The uniform rule does not come with stipulations for a name change, however.
If a claim or circumstance that requires a number change within five years is approved, it can come at a cost of some kind, according to a league source.
