Women in US Have Babies With Different Dads 20%
Boston (SmartAboutHealth) – According to a new study, 20% of all women in the U.S. who have given birth to more than one baby had those children with two different biological fathers.
Multiple partner fertility, meaning giving birth with more than one biological father, or partner, was the focus of the presentation at the Population Association of America.
The idea was to focus on this topic to see just how many women had more than one biological father for their babies.
The study was led by Cassandra Dorius from the University of Michigan Institute of Social Research and focused on data from over 4,000 women over a period of 30 years from 1979 to 2009.
They were all between the age of 14 and 22 when the series of interviews began for the purpose of this study.
What researchers found is that 20% of all women in the U.S. gave birth to more than one child with a different biological father, multiple partner fertility is found to be very common in the U.S.
Researchers stated that they found that children born into this situation had disadvantages compared to other children.
They tend to spend less time together as a family, and mothers in this scenario tended to be less educated according to the study presented.
