The Singapore Democratic Party's call for unity is impossible.

The Singapore Democratic Party's call for unity is impossible.

The Singapore Democratic Party's call for unity is impossible.

Lee Kuan Yew vs The Singapore Democratic Party, Dr. Chee Soon Juan, Chee Siok Chin, et al. My arguments for Dr. Chee.

History of General Elections in Singapore  In 1984, PAP won 77 seats and lost the other two to Singapore Democratic Party and Workers' Party. There were a total of 130 candidates contesting for 79 seats. Then in 1988, Group Representation Constituencies (GRC) came into the General Elections scene. There were altogether 70 seats to be contested out of the 81 seats: 42 were single member and 13 GRCs. There were a total of 8 parties and 4 Independents contesting. PAP won 80 seats and lost one to the Singapore Democratic Party.

On October 13, 2008, Singapore's High Court ruled that opposition Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) Secretary General Dr. Chee Soon Juan and his sister, Chee Siok Chin, must pay Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and his son, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, US$416,000 in damages for an article in the SDP's newsletter. The article had compared how the government is run to a scandal at a well-known charity. The ruling may bankrupt the SDP and permanently shut it down. Dr. Chee and Ms. Chee are already bankrupt because of previous defamation rulings against them.

The GRC was formed in 2001. That year saw the PAP team defeating the Singapore Democratic Party, winning about 80 per cent of the votes. The GRC was uncontested in 2006. In 2008, one of its MPs, Dr Ong Chit Chung, died suddenly of a heart attack.

Dr. Chee Soon Juan of the Singapore Democratic Party believes in the power of peaceful protests  Singapore watchers would have no doubt whatsoever that Dr. Chee Soon Juan of the Singapore Democratic Party believes in the power of peaceful protest against despots, the likes of Lee Kuan Yew. He has himself engaged in it at a very heavy price, being repeatedly jailed for it.
The Singapore Democratic Party's call for unity is impossible.
And the only political party in Singapore who has the honesty to admit the need for change and the courage to physically demand it is the Singapore Democratic Party. You can join it and fight for what is just or you could do it in your groups independently.

( b. 31 March 1943, Singapore -),  became the first female cabinet minister in Singapore when she was named Acting Minister for Community Development, in a cabinet reshuffle in July 1991. However, she was also the first cabinet member to lose a parliamentary seat when she lost by a narrow margin to Ling How Doong of the Singapore Democratic Party in the 1991 general elections.

Chiam See Tong  Chiam See Tong
( b. 12 March 1935, Singapore -  ) is a veteran figure in Singapore's political landscape. He is one of Singapore's longest standing and most iconic opposition figures and has been the member of parliament (MP) for the Potong Pasir constituency since 1984. With his belief in the need for opposition politics to check the possible abuse of power in a one-party system, he founded the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) in 1980. After leaving the SDP in 1995, he founded the Singapore People's Party (SPP), and later the Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA), of which he is chairman.
