Finally the iPad 2 was announce by Steve. Two colors Black and White, really don’t care for the white, but I suppose many women and teenage girls will. Steve really made the emphasis on how thin it is (.34 inches) and I have to agree with him, but really wished the weight of 1.3 pounds good of gone down a little bit more.
So what’s new for the iPad 2, lets take a look:

• Performance: New Dual-Core 1Ghz A5 chip and graphics engine, so theoretically it should be at least twice as fast.
• Size: Reduced the thickness from .5 to .34 inches and the weight from 1.5 to 1.3 pounds. As for the shape it is sensibly the same.
• Sreen: Well many where hoping for the Retina Display but not this gen, so the display is the same as the previous iPad, 1024×768 IPS LCD. Nothing to complain about as it is a very good screen but some added resolution would of been nice.
• Memory: The internal memory was bumped from 256mb to 512mb which will help for multi-tasking. Capacity wise it is the same so 16gb/32gb/64gb.
• Cameras: This one was a no brainer and we get front and back facing cameras, the resolutions is vga for the front and about 1 megapixel for the back. Really disappointed about the resolution of these, but this is how Apple works, they want to keep something new for the next gen right.
• Accessories: A new adapter that allows mirroring and 1080p output throught HDMI, finally. Also a new Smart Cover that is cool but again overpriced, which integrates a system to power on and unlock the iPad when it is opened. I suspect many case manufactures will take advantage of this unlock feature. Can someone explain to me why we need a slide to unlock on iPads?

The keynote then continued with demos of iMovie and Garageband, they seem ok but I would concentrate my efforts on other software like better multi-tasking, but that’s jus me.
